The future of Wembley Stadium is expected to be resolved within days after a long-awaited multi-million pound deal is signed, it emerged today.

German bank WestLB is expected to sign a deal with the Football Association clearing the way for a construction company to move on to the site and build the new arena.

The deal will follow months of negotiations.

Funding for the stadium was provisionally secured in May when WestLB signed a “heads of agreement” deal with the FA to provide a loan of more than £400m (€633m)..

Construction of the stadium is expected to cost around £4,000 (€6,340) a seat.

A spokesman for WestLB told PA News: “We are in the closing stages of the loan agreement - expect completion imminently.”

A spokesman for the FA would not comment.

The north west London stadium has remained an empty shell since the last international was played there against Germany on October 7, 2000.
