ICS appoint first CEO
Frank Cronin has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer in the 35 year history of the Irish Computer Society (ICS), www.ics.ie.
The ICS was established in 1967 and is the representative body for ICT professionals in Ireland.
Previous to his new role Mr. Cronin was also the first CEO of the Irish Internet Association, a role he held for over two years.
He has over 15 years experience in the commercial ICT sector, which includes working with hardware manufacturers, distributors & dealers. He also ran his own web development company VISUnet.
Mr Cronin's role will be to help develop the future strategic direction of the Society.
He will also be responsible for driving membership nationally, expanding the range of services and member benefits, in addition to raising the ICS profile and goals to the members, media and government alike.
Speaking of the appointment Cronin said, "this role is a real challenge, it differs from anything I have done before in that I am representing the interests of individuals as opposed to a company's. The ICS has a long history and I look forward to being an active part of the next phase of the Society's development."
Commenting on the appointment Edwina Fitzmaurice, Chair of the Irish Computer Society said, "The ICS has a long history and is currently experiencing a resurgence of interest from individuals looking for a body to represent their interests. Frank Cronin's unique industry experience is key to the future development of the products and services being provided by the Society for its members."
The ICS, www.ics.ie, was established in 1967 with its core purpose to represent the interests of ICT professionals in Ireland.
It plays a key role as the professional development and regulating body for the ICT sector.
