Hewlett-Packard [NYSE:HWP] announced its new range of Intel Itanium 2-based systems, in an effort to better compete with IBM and Sun for workstation and server market share.

HP co-designed the Itanium 2 chips with Intel and will eventually offer the systems on a range of software platforms including Windows and Linux as well as HP's own HP-UX, OpenVMS, and NonStop Kernel.
