ITV chairman quits

ITV chairman Leslie Hill is quitting the company.

Mr Hill says he thinks it's time to "move on".

His decision coincides with Britain's new Communications Bill, which will pave the way for more ITV consolidation.

His post as ITV Network chairman is being scrapped when he retires at the end of the month.

ITV's chief executive Stuart Prebble quit in May because he said there was no longer a role for him.

ITV Digital, a joint venture between Carlton Communications and Granada, collapsed after going into administration in March.

Mr Hill says: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my eight years in the role, but the approach of the new Communications Bill means that this is an appropriate time for me to move on.

"My time in ITV has spanned the most significant period of adjustment and consolidation in ITV's history, and the recently published draft legislation will mean a further period of intense change and opportunity for the network."

Charles Allen, Granada's chairman, says: "I would like to thank Leslie for his commitment and hard work on ITV's behalf over the past eight years and to wish him well in the future."

Carlton chairman Michael Green says: "Leslie has made a significant contribution through Central Television, Carlton and most recently as chairman of the network."
