Tsunami Photonics receives €1.1m funding

elta Partners has provided €1.1m seed funding for Dublin laser optics company Tsunami Photonics.

Tsunami develops technology to boost the efficiency and capabilities of fibre optic cable in telecommunications networks.

The company was founded in 2000 by Prof Ronan O'Dowd, Director of UCD's Optoelectronic Research Centre. UCD through its University Industry Centre is an investor in Tsunami. Another investor in the company is its chairman Jim Mountjoy, former CEO of Euristix (bought in 1999 by Fore Systems), and a co-founder of Baltimore.

The CEO of the company is Ultan O'Raghallaigh, who prior to joining Tsunami was Global Business Development Manager of the wireless local connectivity division of Motorola's semiconductor business.
