Cork cab company introduce new technology
A Cork cab company is reaching for the stars in order to bring its customers a better service.
Technology installed by Sun Cabs with 61 drivers is linked to a satellite thousands of miles above the earth.
It ensures that a customer is serviced by the nearest car and also that the whereabouts of a car can be pinpointed immediately in the event of an emergency.
The motivating factor in installing the new technology was prompted by the "desire to provide customers with an improved service, " Sun abs manager Ray Tyrell said.
He explained that super smart technology at their headquarters automatically sent a request for a cab to the nearest driver.
The compute link up between office and car was secure so that outsiders couldn’t listen in.
"So no one else can know when a person is leaving heir home or business," he said.
The company’s headquarters in Mayfield is the ‘middleman’ in the link up between the cabs and the satellite.Messages sent from a supersmart computer in head ffice re relayed to a ‘black box’ in a driver’s car.
Incidentally the equipment isn’t of any use for any other purpose.
