Sabena staff protest as bankruptcy looms

Sabena staff are demonstrating on the tarmac at Brussels Airport as the airline faces bankruptcy.

Caterers, luggage-handlers, cleaners and check-in workers fear they won't be paid if Sabena collapses.

Union leaders are meeting Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt to discuss Sabena's fate.

They want him to appoint a company which will address the concerns of Sabena staff.

It's thought there won't be enough money to pay staff wages.

According to a report carried on Belgium's VRT Radio, Virgin Express is no longer interested in buying shares in Sabena

Virgin Express has also backed out of a deal which meant it could rely on Sabena for some of its business.

Sabena, which employs 12,000 people, has been struggling to put together a rescue package since being put into bankruptcy protection by the Belgian courts just over a month ago.
