Up to 7,000 jobs to go as Philips is hit by economic slowdown

Philips is to make up to 7,000 staff redundant as the slowdown in the worldwide electronics market continues.

The Dutch-based group has announced the job losses at the same time as saying that first quarter profits have plummeted.
