US unemployment rate rises

The US unemployment rate climbed to 4.3% last month, the highest level in 20 months, as businesses axed 86,000 jobs.

The job losses were the largest since the end of 1991. The jobless rate rose from 4.2% in February, the Labour Department reported today.
