Tokyo shares close lower in volatile trade

Share prices in Tokyo closed lower in volatile trade on the last trading day of the fiscal year.

The Nikkei 225 index closed down 72.66 points at 12,999.70, off a low of 12,992.45 and a high of 13,457.90.
