London's Footsie index of 100 leading shares has moved ahead by 20.3 points, with traders drawing inspiration from strong gains overnight in the US.
After the first hour of trading, the Footsie stands at 6289.5 after the Dow Jones Industrial Average in New York rebounded sharply from last Friday's heavy losses.
