Uncovered fire station log book sheds new light on events of Easter Week 1916

Since 1898, Dublin Fire Brigade ran the ambulance service and the emergence of the log book of the brigade’s headquarters in Tara Street from 1916 bears witness to the efforts to deal with the battle waging on the streets and the people affected, writes Las Fallon

IN 2014 the log book from Tara St fire station for early 1916, which was thought to have been lost forever, turned up in a Dublin auction house.

It was an official logbook, or ‘occurrence book’, for Dublin Fire Brigade headquarters in Tara St, with handwritten entries which gave a new insight into the events of Easter Week.
