Dockland plan to free up housing

The approval of the Docklands Strategic Development Zone by Bord Pleanála could deliver additional housing for almost 5,800 people.

Dockland plan to free up housing

Bord Pleanála approved the North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock planning scheme which will facilitate the fast-track planning for the Docklands Strategic Development Zone.

The planned development of the zone will see almost 2,600 residential units and almost 305,000-366,000sq m of commercial floor space created in the heart of Dublin. As well as an increase in residential property the development will create in the region of 23,000 jobs.

CEO of Nama Brendan McDonagh said that the approval will help Nama developers deliver housing in areas where critical shortages have been effecting the market.

“Nama has been very supportive of the Docklands strategic development zone ever since it was announced in December 2012. An Bord Pleanála’s timely decision, and that of Dublin City Council in the preparation of the scheme, means that the development of properties in the Docklands strategic development zone area under the control of Nama receivers and debtors can now be accelerated over the coming years.”
