Subway to create 400 jobs with opening of 40 shops across country

Subway is to create 400 jobs with the opening of 40 shops across Ireland, the sandwich maker announced at the opening of their its branch in Douglas in Cork.

The chain, famous for its 12-inch subs, is planning on investing €5m in Ireland and creating 40 new outlets in 2014.

Development Agent for the Subway in Ireland Neil Black said that Ireland has maintained strong growth in spite of the recession.

“Ireland is a great success story for the Subway brand as evidenced by our strong growth over the past few years. In the midst of the recession we have invested and grown our network and it is a great achievement to be opening the 1,700th store in the UK and Ireland in Douglas, Cork,” he said.

The owner of the latest Subway, Owen O’Driscoll, who know operates three Subway’s and employs 26 people said that the success of the business is down to the strength of both the brand and the product.

“Starting from a base of zero I now employ a team of over 26 people across three stores. From a consumer perspective the Subway brand is a real attraction bringing consumers the very best sandwiches with healthier options and great value. From a business perspective, the low costs involved in set-up, allied to the brand strength and the support of a network of small business owners just like me makes it an ideal new business venture,” he said.

The figures for the company speak for themselves, this year the brand announced its 40,000th store opening globally.

Mr O’Driscoll’s outlet is the 1,700th store across UK and Ireland with 100 shops opening in the last year.
