European markets were off on the whole yesterday as they tracked overnight US losses.

Markets fears arising from political decisions surrounding the debt ceiling weighed on market sentiments. Closer to home Bank of Ireland have circa €500m following the sale of its 7.5%, seven-year covered bond with a yield of 3.63%. The Iseq gained 0.11 points to 4,273.23.

Banking had a mixed day as only AIB was in positive territory closing up 0.3c to 9.3c while Permanent TSB shed 0.1c to tack on 3.9c. Despite its new bond issue Bank of Ireland lost 1 cent to 21.4c.
