Consumers not happy with broadband speeds

The survey of 1,000 customers carried out by uSwitch.ie found that only 48% of broadband households expressed any level of satisfaction with their actual broadband speeds.

Head of uSwitch.ie Eoin Clarke said that the speed that people receive in their homes is the service that they are paying for and it is important that they get what they are paying for.

“Broadband speed is now a major factor in Irish households, as online services continue to grow, and families want to have fast and easy access to things like shopping, entertainment, banking and gaming online. It’s so important that households are actually getting the broadband speed they are paying for and getting value for money.

Many Irish consumers are not even aware if they are receiving the broadband speed that they are paying for. Nearly a third are unsure what they are paying for while more than half have never checked what speed they are receiving.

Although many Irish households have expressed unhappiness with their current broadband speed, the rate of switching to new suppliers remains relatively low. Of those that have switched suppliers, most switched more than two years ago. This means many households are missing out on savings to be made from new broadband offerings.
