50 jobs to go at Aviva’s Irish arm
The staff who work in the intermediary and partnership section within Aviva’s general insurance business were not originally included in the 540 job losses that Aviva announced last year.
A spokesperson for Aviva said that the changes in the business sector affected by the redundancy was due to the changes in the insurance market with less sales being generated through brokers and increased emphasis on direct selling.
“There is no increase in the number of jobs that are going. There is a change in the mix of jobs due to the way that the insurance industry has gone.
“A number of people who did not expect to be going are now being offered redundancy,” the spokesperson said.
As part of the reorganisation of Aviva, Cork will become the site for the Aviva National Trading Centre which will handle all of the company’s underwriting. The establishment of the National Trading Centre will see the number of staff employed in the operation rise by 15.
In their half-year results, CEO Mark Wilson described the performance of its Irish subsidiary as “far from satisfactory,” despite the company engaging in radical restructuring.
