Quarter of SME loans impaired

Roughly a quarter of SME loans held by the banks were impaired at the end of last year, which is up from 21% at the end of 2011, according to the Central Bank’s Macro-Financial Review.

Overall, the SME sector accounts for 19% of the domestic banks’ loan books.

The value of impaired loans reached €10.8bn at the end of December.
