Subcontractors urged to write off losses

Industry sources have confirmed that Pepsi has contacted subcontractors directly and asked them to write off their losses and return to work on a €10m development in Cork.

The drinks manufacturer requested that sub-contractors accept losses on work they had already completed for the previous contractor and return to the site to complete the work. The original contractor Brian McCarthy Contractors ceased trading last week.

Subcontractors said that they will blockade the site if there is any attempt to move a new contractor in without the money owed to them being repaid.
