The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises association (Isme) and John Perry, the small business minister, both have drastically different takes on how the EU’s late payment directive will affect firms.

Speaking at the European Commission seminar on the late payments directive, Mr Perry said implementing the new legislation will force payment within 60 days.

“Implementing the late payment directive is critically important for all Irish businesses, as late payments in commercial transactions will have an adverse effect on businesses by straining cashflow, adding financial costs, and fuelling uncertainty for many businesses.
