AIB withdraws staff from IBRC

AIB has withdrawn staff from branches of IBRC where they were providing deposit account banking facilities to former Anglo Irish customers.

Customers of IBRC branches in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Waterford will be affected by the withdrawal of staff.

A note posted on the door of IBRC in Cork said that customers could operate their deposit accounts using telephone banking or post.

“Irish Bank Resolution Corporation Limited will be no longer provide a walk-in service to deposit account customers.

“From 11 May, 2012 deposit accounts may only be operated using our telephone banking service or by post,” the note read.

It is understood that 210 staff transferred to AIB in February 2011 when AIB took over the deposit account business.

IBRC did retain a limited number of deposit account customers.

These customers were borrowers from IBRC and they now deal directly with their lending account managers.

IBRC transferred €8.6 billion in deposits to AIB last year as part of the wind-down of Anglo. The moving of deposit accounts was thought to affect about 120,000 customers at IBRC.

Only 10 of these staff were dedicated to assisting customers who were called into the IBRC branches.

These staff have now been transferred to AIB branches.

AIB has written to customers to inform them of the changes.

The remaining 200 staff remain employed by AIB.

IBRC declined to comment on the changes.
