Eight jobs lost as Kilkenny Advertiser ceases trading

Staff were told after they had finished producing the paper on Thursday evening that this week’s paper would be the last edition.

Despite numerous attempts, management of the Advertiser Group could not be reached for comment. A note on the door of the premises read: “The Kilkenny Advertiser Ltd has ceased trading. If you have any queries please contact sales@ kilkennyadvertiser.ie.”

The Kilkenny Advertiser is part of the Advertiser group based in Eyre Square, Galway. The group also publishes the Athlone, Mullingar, Mayo and Galway Advertiser papers.

Management held meetings with staff in The Mayo Advertiser and The Athlone Advertiser yesterday. Stiff competition in the free paper market is understood to be behind the closure of the Kilkenny publication.
