Farmers who are registered for VAT should be allowed to claim a direct refund on carbon tax costs, ensuring a 100% refund, according to the IFA.

The farmer group wants the 2012 Finance Bill to honour the commitment to “exempt farm diesel from further increases in the carbon tax” contained in the Government’s pre-election promises.

IFA president John Bryan said unregistered farmers should pay, at point of sale, a fuel price net of the carbon tax increase.
