Europe was in focus, as Greece agreed to form a unity government and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi denied rumours that he may resign, amid fears of debt crisis contagion to Italy.

In the financial sector, Bank of Ireland dipped 0.1c to 9.2.c. AIB slipped 0.1c to 8.6c. Irish Life & Permanent lost 0.2c to 3.2c, while insurance group FBD Holdings was 20c better at 6.40.
