Teagasc: Record crop yields reflect good harvest for grain growers

RECORD yields in some crops in the southern counties were a feature of what Teagasc advisers have described as a very successful harvest for most Irish grain growers.

Yields are up on 2010 figures, with spring barley yielding 6.3 to 8.5 tonnes per hectare, and winter wheat yielding 9 to 12 tonnes.

Winter barley (7.4 to 11 tonnes) performed well, except on very light land affected by very dry weather in May and June.
