Privatisation plan could push prices higher

HEADLINES such as ‘Struggling consumers are facing an onslaught of price rises over the coming months’, in last Friday’s paper are set to continue.

It then went on to report that electricity customers of Bord Gáis will see prices soar by 12% from August 1 and that the cost of gas was to increase by more than 20% before the winter.

It seems like only yesterday that Bord Gáis was advertising very generous offers to entice customers of other utilities and to supply them with electricity. All in the name of competition, you know? Mind you, it’s hard to know what we the owner of both utilities gets out of such competition.
