The ISEQ started the new business week with a gain of 4.25 points to close at 2,886.82.

European shares edged up after falling for eight straight weeks, with the many of the main bank stocks improving. Numerous strategists are of the opinion that the worst-case scenario for heavily-indebted Greece is already priced in.

In the financial sector, Bank of Ireland added 0.1c to 11.7c. AIB shed 0.4c to 15.1c, while Irish Life & Permanent fell 0.5c to 6c.
