Inflation pressure eases to 2.7%

CONSUMERS saw some slight relief in the rising cost of prices last month as the pace of increases eased to 2.7%.

This is despite the price of clothes, petrol, alcohol and mortgage interest all rising last month. There were falls, however, in food, health insurance and diesel prices.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show the annual rate of inflation was 2.7% in May, down from 3.2% in April. The monthly increase in prices was 0.1%.
