IRELAND had the second highest trade surplus in the EU for the first nine months of the year but growth of exports was the lowest after Luxembourg.

Imports dropped by 1% giving a surplus of €36.2 billion, which compared well with Germany’s balance of €127.6bn.

Growth in exports is essential for the country’s growth prospects and to reassure markets that the country’s massive debt is sustainable.
