Shannon: Workers at one of the mid-west’s largest companies have voted in favour of a restructuring programme which will see almost one fifth of full-time workers laid off from January.

Shannon Aerospace Ltd, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG, is based next to the main runway at Shannon Airport and specialises in airframe maintenance, engineering, painting and technical services for airlines.

The company, which employs 628 full-time staff and 97 trainees, confirmed on October 21 it proposed laying off 107 workers, mostly administrative and support staff.
