‘Current account’ balance moves back into the black

IRELAND’s quarterly ‘current account’ balance moved back into the black during the third quarter of the year, with a surplus of €255 million being recorded for the three months to the end of September.

The latest set of quarterly balance of payments figures, from the CSO — which basically measure the flow of income in and out of the economy — show the surplus, in comparison to a deficit of €1.14 billion in the second quarter of the year.

When measured on a year-on-year basis, the third-quarter surplus was up from a deficit of €653m.
