Beef Expo Ireland an opportunity to show the best quality and standard
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Minister Brendan Smith, who will officially open the event, said it will be an unique opportunity for all beef pedigree cattle breeders to show the quality and standard of their beef livestock in Ireland to an audience of key international visitors.
He said Beef Expo 2010 will build on the foundations of the very successful inaugural Beef Expo 2008 which his department also supported.
“I am confident that the event will have an international/export focus with a view to increasing the trade in pedigree cattle, semen and embryos to the EU and international markets,” he said.
The organising committee consists mainly of members from the Pedigree Cattle Breeders Council of Ireland.
Mr Smith said the Food Harvest 2020 Report envisages an increase of 20% in value of output in the beef sector and one of the key areas identified to achieve this target is improved genetics in the beef herd.
“The event provides an opportunity for the significant advancements in Irish cattle breeding to be recognised and promoted,” he said.
Mr Smith said pedigree breeders have a vital part to play in achieving the targets set by Food Harvest 2020 and also the success of the event.
The event will be held over two days with an informal viewing of the cattle by international visitors on October 9, followed by a gala dinner.
