THERE is a fear Ireland could become the “laughing stock” of the world, unless it gets serious about broadband, according to small business group ISME.

It said just one in four businesses are using the internet for on-line sales and opportunities for small firms in on-line selling are not being exploited due to “inadequate infrastructure”.

ISME chief executive Mark Fielding said the lack of adequate broadband is a major obstacle for businesses wishing to sell on-line.
