Banks give fewer loans as demand for credit falls

BANKS are issuing fewer loans to people according to figures, as demand for credit and credit being issued both fall.

Statistics published by the Central Bank showed a further slowing down in the flow of credit in June compared to last year and compared to May’s figures.

Overall, loans to households were down on aggregate by 4.1%, with lending for house purchases down 1.5% compared to June last year.
