Royal Dublin Society’s ‘historic role’ in developing forestry highlighted

THE historic role of the Royal Dublin Society in developing Irish forestry was highlighted at Donadea Forest Park, Kilcock, Co Kildare, when details of this year’s national forestry awards were announced.

RDS Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee chairman Jim Flanagan said the society has been involved in the development of Irish forestry since it first awarded grants in 1740, resulting in the planting of 55 million trees.

He said the RDS-Forest Service Awards, now in their 23rd year, are intended to promote standards of excellence in the production of native forests and trees.
