CORK has replaced Shannon as the country’s second busiest airport after a dramatic reduction in the number of flights to the Co Clare aviation base during the first half of 2010.

New figures from the Irish Aviation Authority show that Shannon suffered a 45% decrease in commercial flights during the first six months of the year.

Just more than 7,800 commercial aircraft used Shannon between January and June this year compared to 14,279 flights during the corresponding period in 2009.
