G20 to be lobbied on bank risk levy

London: Britain will lobby its partners among the Group of 20 industrialised countries to impose a systemic-risk tax on banks, chancellor Alistair Darling said.

The levy would be applied only if international agreement can be reached, Darling said. He rejected the argument of the opposition Conservative party, which said it would unilaterally impose the tax if it wins this year’s election.
