British house prices increase

London: British house prices jumped in January by the most in five months as the economy emerged from recession, Nationwide Building Society said.

The average cost of a home increased 1.2% from the previous month to £163,481 (€188,479), the mortgage lender said. Prices are now 8.6% higher than a year earlier and down 12% from their peak in October 2007.
