BoI shares fall as nationalisation mooted

BANK of Ireland’s share price fell by nearly 8% yesterday, after renewed speculation that it may need to be significantly nationalised by the Government, in order to fulfil its future funding needs.

Down from early trading, Bank of Ireland’s decline gathered pace throughout the day and closed at €1.29; a fall of 7.73%, or 11c from Tuesday’s closing price.

The fall — on a largely uneventful day for the ISEQ which was down by 0.22% at 2,916 points — wasn’t replicated by AIB, however, which gained 1.27% (2c) to close at €1.20.
