A MAJOR gap is now emerging between the price paid by processors to farmers for milk and that being paid in other EU countries, the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association has claimed.

ICMSA deputy president John O’Leary said French farm-gate prices were over 30 cent per litre for August and Dutch milk prices were nearly 33 cent per litre for October. That compares with respective average returns of 23 cent and 21 cent per litre for October and August milk supplies in Ireland.

“In light of ongoing improvements in dairy markets, all co-op boards must implement an increase in the October milk price that fully reflects the increased returns from the marketplace,” he said.
