SIPTU orders union branches to prepare for strike action

THE country’s largest trade union has ordered its branches around the country to start preparing for strike action across the public and private sector.

SIPTU issued the direction following a two-day meeting of its national executive council.

In a circular issued to members on behalf of the executive and its president Jack O’Connor, the union said it was now clear“beyond all doubt” that the Government has decided that working people and those who depend most on public services will exclusively shoulder the burden of the previous mismanagement of the economy.
