The ISEQ jumped 60.28 points yesterday to end the week at 3,038.21.

Markets throughout Europe rallied on the back of comments by the president of the European Central Bank Jean Claude Trichet. He said that while latest data suggest that contraction in economic activity has come to an end, the recovery is expected to be uneven.

In the financial sector, the main stocks had relatively quiet day. AIB progressed 9c to €2.42, Bank of Ireland gained 7c to €2.37, Irish Life & Permanent dipped 10c to €4.80, while insurance group FBD Holdings jumped 22c to close at €7.27.
