LADBROKES is to close five unprofitable outlets in its Irish retail portfolio before the end of the year, after a challenging first half.

Yesterday, the British bookmaking chain reported a 65.2% year-on-year fall in operating profit for its Irish division for the first half of this year, to £5.4 million (€6.32m).

Net revenue for its operations here fell by 10.4% from the same period last year, to £42.3m.
