IRISH Life & Permanent (IL&P) and AIB were two of the strongest performers yesterday, during what was, generally, a day of slow progress on Dublin’s ISEQ index.

Overall, Dublin was up by just 0.89% – or 26 points – at 2,955.57 points. The banking stocks, however, put in a healthy performance.

IL&P gained 39c – up nearly 10% – to close at 4.35. AIB wasn’t far off, rising by 25c – up 12.59% –- to €2.24 after it announced plans to strengthen its capital base; while Bank of Ireland closed at €2.18; a daily rise of 8.75%, or 18c.
