CHRISTMAS shoppers were warned yesterday to be on the lookout for forged bank notes.

The Central Bank said the busy shopping period was the ideal time for counterfeiters to ply their trade because of the high flow of cash.

About 312,000 fake notes were withdrawn from the euro area in the first half of this year, with the €50 note the most commonly counterfeited.
