IRISH banks are expected to formally appoint two board members from the panel of 12 names put forward by the Government before Christmas.

Their role will be to represent the taxpayer as directed under the State guarantee scheme.

Former Labour leader Dick Spring and a previous Department of Finance secretary general Tom Considine have been chosen by AIB from the Government’s list of 12 candidates announced last week.

Tony Spollen, who exposed the DIRT scandal at AIB is to join the EBS building society as well as Ann Riordan, formerly of Microsoft.

Former Revenue Commissioner chairman, Frank Daly along with Alan Dukes will become the State’s watchdogs at Anglo Irish.

Mr Dukes is a former Fine Gale leader and he previously held the post as Minister for Finance.

Joe Walsh, former Minister for Agriculture will be joined by Declan Collier, chief executive, Dublin Airport Authority on the board of Bank of Ireland.

Ray MacSharry, once a director of Bank of Ireland will join the board of Irish Life & Permanent along with Margaret Hayes, who was secretary general of the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation until her retirement in 2002.

Rory O’Farrell, a former accountant with Deloitte and Adrian Kearns, the outgoing chief executive of the National Development Finance Agency will be the new faces on the board of Irish Nationwide.
