PRE-TAX profits at Johnston Press Ireland fell to €5.6m last year from €13.6m in 2006.

The sharp drop in profits was as a result of an exceptional €6.3m write-off in the year which involved the sale of Naas Web.

“These expenses were due to the reorganisation of the Republic of Ireland business, including the sale of the Naas Web, which the directors believe will improve operations and profits in future years.
