BOSSES of German discount retailer Aldi aim to have more stores in Ireland than the big supermarkets within 10 years.

Phase one involves an investment of €350 million in the opening of 35 stores and a second distribution centre to be built in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, to serve the southern counties.

“It is not an exaggeration to say that Aldi plans to have more stores in Ireland within 10 years than either Tesco or Dunnes,” said Paul Foley, managing director Aldi UK and Ireland.
