THE ISEQ index finished down 15.93 points at 2,710.72 as shaky financials kept gains to a minimum and European and Asian markets were substantially weaker.

Also, investors are worried about whether the Irish government will be forced to follow others around Europe and underwrite new capital for the banks.

The main financial stocks had a mixed day. AIB was up 13c at €3.52, Bank of Ireland weakened 5c to €1.60, Irish Life and Permanent dived 45c to €3.10.
