Manufacturing index decline

A SHARP decline in new orders sent the NCB Purchasing Managers’ Index to 43.7 last month, worse than the August figure.

The reading was just slightly better than July’s record low of 43.4 as the Irish manufacturing sector continued to suffer.

Any figure below 50 on the index, which is designed to provide a single measure of the health of the manufacturing industry means activity declined.
